Real Conditions and Their Results
The ability to express conditions and consequences is a key skill at the B1 level. The present lesson focuses on real conditions: those that are likely or possible. The structure consists of a subordinate clause introduced by si (if) in the present tense, and a main clause in the futur simple, the present, or the imperative. Key Rules
Several principles govern Type 1 conditional sentences:
1. The clause introduced by si must never use the future or the conditional. Only the present indicative is permitted.
2. The main clause may be in the futur simple, the present indicative, or the imperative, depending on the intended meaning.
3. The two clauses may be inverted: Nous réduirons les déchets si nous recyclons plus.
4. This structure should not be confused with Type 2 hypothetical conditions (si + imparfait, conditionnel présent), which will be studied separately.
