- Masculino singular antes de uma consoante: ce (ce cahier, ce stylo). - Masculino singular antes de uma vogal ou h silenciosa: cet (cet ami, cet ordinateur). - Feminino singular (independente da letra inicial): cette (cette chaise, cette amie). - Plural, qualquer gênero: ces (ces cahiers, ces mesas). A forma feminina cette não muda antes de uma vogal; o masculino singular sozinho usa cet nessa posição.

Demonstrative adjectives combine with known vocabulary to identify items in the immediate environment: Ce livre est intéressant. Cet après-midi, je vais à la bibliothèque. Ces étudiants sont français. Cette couleur est belle. They function identically to articles in terms of position and agreement.
